Tam Coc-Bich Dong tourist site has a natural area of 350.3 ha, located 2 km from National Highway 1A, 7 km from Ninh Binh city and 9 km from Tam Diep town. While Hoa Lu is famous for its temples dedicated to the Dinh and Le Kings which were built in the 10th century, Tam Coc is known as a place where the Le King lived a secluded life.

Tam Coc is located in Van Lam commune, Ninh Hai village, Hoa Lu district, Tam Coc has three caves: Ca, Hai and Ba formed by the Ngo Dong River.

The ideal route when visiting Tam Coc

Ca Cave (about 127m in length) runs through a big mountain. Its mouth is more than 20m in width. Hai Cave, nearly 1km from Ca Cave, is 60m in length and Ba Cave 50m in length. From the center’s pier, visitors can go for a row in the cool and clear weather, and see the breathtaking scenery.

The boat crosses the Tam Coc and brings tourists to Thai Vi Temple. The temple is the worship place of the Tran dynasty including Tran Thai Tong, Tran Thanh Tong, Tran Hung Dao, Tran Quang Khai and the Queen Tran Thi Dung. From the marina boat, tourists can walk to Thai Vi temple and worship to the kings of Tran dynasty. The end of the route is at Thien Huong grotto. The grotto has the height of 60 meters, depth of 40 meters and width of 20 meters. The open peak of the grotto is often called “Dong Troi”. Inside the grotto, there is the worship Temple of the Queen Tran Thi Dung.

 Furthermore, on the trip discovering Tam Coc, tourists can take a visit to Bich Dong. Here, tourists can go to visit Bich Dong pagoda with the composition of 3 structures: Have Pagoda, Trung Pagoda, and Thuong Pagoda. The grotto name means “green cave” and it was named by vizier Nguyen Nhiem – the father of great poet Nguyen Du.
