The name of Ki Lan Mountain

The name of Mountain originates from its special shape. Ki Lan has a mountain-shape like a Chinese unicorn head looking north. The mountain is high over 50m and the north of the mountainside is similar to a unicorn’s jaw. Surrounding the mountain are the undulating cliffs, the green trees like mane and beard of the unicorn.

The small Ky Lan mountain is mirrored on the river. At the top is the curving prominent roof of Ki Lan Mount Pagoda printed on the blue sky. In order to reach Mount Ky Lan, visitors have to cross a seven-span stone arch bridge over the lake. The bridge is 2m wide, 4m high and 30m long. The bridge is joined by large stone solid plates. Stepping to the foot of Ky Lan Mountain, the tourists’ bodies will be quickly covered by the fresh and cool air. The combination of freshwater lake, the green trees and rare birds and animals in the Ky Lan Mountain has formed the unique enchanting miniature scenery. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand why local people and tourists have called Mount Ky Lan a “green pearl”.

Although it is only a small mountain, Ky Lan Mountain has five caves: Toi (Dark) Sang (Light) Caves, Ngang Cave, Trung Cave and Den (Temple) Cave. Ngang Cave is about 8 meters deep, Den Cave is adjacent to the Temple of Goddess in the North West. Trung Cave is at the back of the mountain, about 10 meters deep, vast and can hold hundreds of people.

Sitting in Nghenh Phong Cac which hides on the top of Ky Lan Mountain, you can see the whole of Ninh Binh. Looking to the west is the large freshwater Ky Lan lake, the monumental limestone mountains surrounding the Trang An eco-tourism, Bai Dinh pagoda or the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. Ninh Binh’s majestic mountains and landscape suddenly are shrunk in your sight. It is a suitable place to enjoy tea and experience the life of ancient Hoa Lu people.
