Bai Dinh tourist area is a large temple complex known for many Asian and Vietnamese records, located in the western gateway of Hoa Lu ancient capital, on National Highway 38B, in Gia Sinh and Gia Vien communes, ninh binh vietnam, about 15 km from Ninh Binh city and 95 km from Hanoi. The overview of Bai Dinh Pagoda
Over 1000 years ago, in Ninh Binh, there were three King dynasties to be born: Dinh, Early Lê dynasty and Ly. These three feudal dynasties were all very interested in Buddhism and considered Buddhism as the National religion; So in Ninh Binh, there are many ancient temples, including Bai Dinh Pagoda, in the Trang An mountain range.
In 1136, when Zen master Nguyen Minh Khong went to search for medicinal plants to cure for King Ly Than Tong, he discovered the cave on Dinh mountain and chose this place to build a Buddha statue, turn this place as a place of spiritual practice.
In 968, Dinh Tien Hoang defeated 12 warlords and ascended the emperor, he went to Dinh mountain – this sacred mountain to set up the altar of gods to pray for the good weather, the wealth of the country, the peace for people and ordain for soldiers. After that, King Quang Trung also came here to set up the army of soldiers to encourage soldiers before going to Thang Long (the capital now) to destroy the Thanh army.
The current Bai Dinh complex consists of an ancient pagoda and a new pagoda built in 2003. The pagoda is located on the mountainside, between the vast valleys with lakes and rocky mountains, at the western gate to the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.
