Bich Dong means Green Cave, “Bich” means green stone. The name of Bich Dong was given to the cave by the father of the great poet Nguyen Du in 1773. Bich Dong is not a big cave but it is made up of two small caves.
The dry cave is located on the middle of the mountain or also called Bich Dong Pagoda and the water cave pierces through the mountain, called Xuyen Thuy Cave.
Bich Dong Pagoda dates back to the late Le Dynasty, having survived for hundreds of years, although it has been eroded by time, it still retains the ancient character of one of the most beautiful ancient temples in Vietnam. The pagoda is spread over 3 heights, consisting of 3 small pagodas, Ha (Lower) pagoda, Trung (Middle) pagoda and Thuong (Upper) pagoda.
Xuyen Thuy Dong is a water cave running from the East to the West of Bich Dong Mountain. The cave is 350m long, the ceiling and the wall are made by many large rocks, forming many interesting shapes, the largest place is 15m high, the smallest place is from 3 – 6m high.
